FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Project P.L.A.Y. School

What is mixed age grouping and why is it important?
Mixed age grouping creates an atmosphere of nurturing and allows each
child to learn at their own pace. Learning is a continuum and teachers
support the individual and his or her learning needs. At our school, the
group is a family of learners.

How do teachers interact with children at Project P.L.A.Y. School?
Teachers participate as partners in children’s activities with positive
interactions focusing on each one’s strengths. Forming positive relationships, supporting ideas and demonstrating a problem solving approach to social conflict
is vital to our philosophy.

How is the day organized at Project P.L.A.Y. School?
We provide blocks of time for child-initiated activities interspersed with
more structured group activities such as small group work, story and snack
times. The flow of our day allows for flexibility so that activities that may need more time can be accommodated.

Why do we use natural materials and recycled, found objects at Project P.L.A.Y. School?
Exploring natural, beautiful and interesting objects stimulates creativity and fills the environment with life for the children. Having open-ended materials allows each child’s work to be uniquely their own.

How are parents, teachers, and children partners in the learning process at Project P.L.A.Y. School?
We value listening, openness and respect in relationships with children and parents and create an environment that is welcoming. Participating with parents to help children grow and develop is a special privilege and we value parents as the child’s first teacher and a partner with us in this journey.

How do I enroll my child in Project P.L.A.Y. School?
